electric folk expressions by Erin "Erne" Murphy, composed while listening to a lot of jazzy schmaltz and Patsy and Dolly and ocean soundscapes.

In 2008, Mosephine was nothing but a funny-sounding name bestowed upon Erin "Erne" Murphy. It sprung from a dull inside joke, a simple misunderstanding, a combination of grandmother spirits, of an organist and a flower arranger.  Erne picked up the guitar to learn a song for a then-beau, and a few days later wrote the first of many breakup songs freshly dumped on his doorstep, releasing them online as Maid Mosephine.

Maid Mosephine found an audience in Erne's sun-saturated hometown of Sarasota, FL, propelled by a gaggle of like-minded scrappy earnest makerfriends on a big wide porch. Guitars passed around a committee formed by tomfoolery and absurd plans.  They stormed open mic nights as a crew, helped each other start bands, and later founded Finch House Records, named after the porch that started it all.

At some point that year, Maid Mosephine folded in fellow musicians to form Maid Mosephine & The Equines.  The Equines released an EP (Hearts on Faces, Finch House Records, 2009). Friends then formed Tiny Ensemble so they could all have an excuse to piggyback on a friend's tour in a veg oil school bus, and Erne developed a still-unsatiated taste for the road.

Erne met and then joined forces with cellist Greg Bortnichak in 2011, forming Bard and Mustache, releasing 3 EP’s, and toured the east coast. Before releasing their first album, they changed their name to Teach Me Equals and moved into a camper.  Teach Me Equals lived and performed on the road from 2013 to 2018, releasing their debut album (Knives in the Hope Chest, Minorlit Records, 2014), a Split EP (RedRumsey / Teach Me Equals, Exotic Fever Records, 2016), and a followup album (Fix History, Wild Klamath Records, 2018).

Along the way, Erne has collaborated with many a wonderful human, shrieking, playing violin or guitar or just making plain ol’ noise.

Now, with about a hundred thousand tour miles beneath the belt and reclaiming her old moniker, Mosephine is setting out on the solo trek to make some noise and some new music-minded pals along the way.
